You will find good arguments on both sides of the debate as to whether pure water distillers are better than water filter systems. The filtered water system leaves the minerals in the water, and the pure water distiller takes the minerals out.

Both of the systems have the ability to remove the unhealthy contaminates in water, such as lead, chlorine, bacteria, herbicides, and others. But it’s what is left in the water of one and taken out of the water in the other one that is the main debate.

Pros for the pure water distiller say the body can’t absorb the inorganic minerals anyway, and that leaving them in is actually harming your body. Where the pro water filter system experts say, that the body was designed to work with water that contains traces of inorganic minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

When you take the minerals out of the water you end up with an acidic pH. What I’ve learned is you don’t want the pH level in your body to be overly acidic, because that is when cancer cells can develop and thrive. So for me it is not practical to drink water with an acidic pH.

The believers in pure water distillers say you can take mineral supplements to counter effect the fact that you took the minerals out of your water. That doesn’t make practical sense to me.

First, why should I buy a product to put something into my body when I could have just as easy left it in by filtering my water instead of using a pure water distiller? And second, are the minerals supplements I buy as good of a choice as what nature has put into my water naturally? Since I am all for natural, I don’t think so.

I believe if we drink de-mineralized water it will pull the minerals out of my body to balance itself. So I am not getting minerals from my water, plus it is actually robbing my body of the minerals I do have trying to get it back into the proper form that my body can use. Doesn’t make much sense to me.

I do believe pure water distillers remove all the harmful chemicals and contaminates in the water, so it is a far better choice than not filtering at all. But I would rather see you invest in a two-stage carbon water filter that utilizes carbon filtration, ion exchange, and sub micron filtration. This water treatment system will take out all the harmful substances and leave the good natural minerals in.

For drinking purposes, pure water distillers are not the best choice. Research has shown that people who drink from a pure water distiller on a regular basis have digestive problems and nutritional deficiencies.

You see, pure water distillers strip the mineral content to a point that is unnatural. Nowhere in the world are there naturally occurring de-mineralized waters. Even if you are not a naturalist, you have to see that throughout the history of man, we drank what was available.

It seems that when we drink from a pure water distiller, the water’s molecules actually absorb the minerals from the food we eat and from our intestinal tract, in order to restore the balance. Those minerals that we needed for our health are then discarded as waste.

Distilled waters disrupt the natural pH level in the stomach, causing excessive acidity, which can lead to heartburn and acid reflux. They will not replenish electrolytes lost during exercise.

In fact, if a person were competing in a marathon or working outside on a hot day and drank only from pure water distillers, he or she would suffer from “over-hydration”. The body cannot function properly without electrolytes, primarily the minerals sodium and potassium.

That’s why the healthiest and most vibrant societies emerged in areas where there were mineral springs. The people could run faster and work harder for longer periods of time, without suffering from fatigue of exhaustion.

They didn’t know that they were balancing their electrolytes. They just knew that they had more energy.

Cities and health spas were designed “around” mineral springs, wells and baths. All over the world, you will see towns named “Bath”.

In recent history, people would go to these baths to “take the waters”. They were healing, soothing, relieving and generally healthy overall. You will not see people flocking around a pure water distiller to improve their health.

But, pure water distillers are still the most common purification choice for bottled waters. They may add some minerals back in, because otherwise the taste is very flat and stale.

For home purification, there are much better choices for several reasons. First, a pure water distiller does not remove contaminants that have a lower boiling point than the liquid. Many of the cancer causing chemicals that our society is plagued with, simply turn into vapor and float through to the final chamber, along with the steam.

Secondly, the dangerous contaminants, such as lead, that are removed by pure water distillers can be removed through ion exchange. This step also improves the mineral content and the taste by exchanging copper and lead ions for potassium and sodium.

I have seen companies that promote an ultra pure water distiller by saying that cell lines live longer in this environment. That may be so, but human beings won’t live longer in a de-mineralized state. In fact, without minerals or electrolytes, they would eventually die.

The best choice for home purification is a multi-stage system that removes a wide range of contaminants, including chlorine and other chemicals, while balancing the mineral content and the pH level. You can get one for your shower, too and the health of your skin and hair will improve as a result. So, stop looking for pure water distillers and discover something better.
